Tub-to-Shower Conversion vs. Full Bathroom Remodel: Which Scope Fits?

A conversion replaces the bathing area. A full remodel can change the whole room. Here is how to tell which conversation to start with.

Finished glass-enclosed shower with white wall tile from an ARCC bathroom project

This is general planning information. The right scope for your bathroom depends on what is behind the walls, how you use the room and what you want changed. ARCC defines the boundary of each project in a written scope after looking at the actual space.

What a tub-to-shower conversion usually covers

A conversion focuses on the bathing area: removing the existing tub, preparing the area, and installing a shower with the selected walls, base, glass and fixtures. Entry height, shower size, storage and drain position are discussed before a system is chosen.

What a full bathroom remodel can add

  • Vanity, countertop and storage changes
  • New flooring and transitions to adjoining rooms
  • Lighting, ventilation and fixture changes
  • Layout changes that move plumbing
  • Custom tile showers with a waterproofing assembly detailed as one system

Where qualifying 1-day bath installations fit

Some limited-scope installations may suit a shorter on-site window once materials and existing conditions are confirmed. Not every project qualifies. Custom tile, layout changes, concealed damage and coordinated trade work take longer, and we discuss realistic timing before work starts.

Things that can change scope or timing

  • Concealed water damage found when the old tub or wall comes out
  • Drain location or plumbing changes
  • Material lead times
  • Waterproofing and tile cure times on custom showers

If you suspect water damage behind the tub or under the floor, it is worth raising that early. See water damage restoration for how ARCC handles that work.

Questions to answer before your estimate

  • Do you need a tub anywhere in the home?
  • Is the goal easier entry, a larger shower, or a different look for the whole room?
  • Are there soft floors, staining or past leaks near the tub?
  • Do you want the vanity, flooring or adjoining closet changed at the same time?

For a look at a finished larger project, see the custom shower, bath and closet remodel. To start, request a callback about bathroom remodeling and tub-to-shower conversion.

Common questions

Is every tub-to-shower conversion a one-day job?
No. Some qualifying limited-scope installations may be completed in a shorter window. Eligibility depends on existing conditions, the selected system and agreed scope.
Do you give prices online?
No. Pricing depends on the actual bathroom and the agreed scope, so we discuss it after seeing the space.
